Let's Make Your House A Home
Home Renovation Advantages
08 Apr, 2020
Whether you’re interested in upgrading your kitchen , renovating your bathroom , or adding a room , there are several advantages to home remodeling efforts. Having a properly functioning house will make for an easier daily routine and will lessen the stress associated with an outdated, cramped living space. No matter what aspect of your home needs improvement, check out the five advantages of home remodeling below. Value: When investing in roof replacements, new floors, or countertops, this increases your home’s market value. You may not be making these improvements to sell at the moment, but updating now will always benefit you down the road if you ever do decide to put your home on the market. Increase Quality of Life: If your growing family is starting to outgrow the space in your home, resulting in cramped quarters, an addition may just be the perfect option. Adding a bedroom or bathroom to the layout will lead to better time management as well as a more comfortable living space. Energy Efficiency: Replacing worn-out roofs or siding can ultimately save you money in the future. Having cracked or damaged components on the exterior of your home can lead to less insulation and protection from the elements. This can cause your HVAC systems to work harder than usual to keep your home at a comfortable temperature. By investing in the replacement of these aspects, the insulation will improve, ultimately reducing your utility bills. Personalization: Unless you built your home, you most likely purchased it with the design intentions of the original owner. Home remodeling allows you to add in your personal touch from a style point of view. Whether that be through colors, shapes, or materials used, renovating any room in your home will allow you to provide unique changes that reflect your taste. Durability: Adding new countertops or flooring to your kitchen and bathrooms can result in a stronger material that extends longevity. For example, granite has proven to be a high-quality material for countertops that has the ability to hold the design and color for years to come. Longevity is important in these high-trafficked areas of your home. For all your home renovation needs, the team at D3 Builders can help! We have the skills and experience necessary to provide roof replacements, home additions, as well as individual room remodels such as the kitchen or bathroom. Roof Inspections and Cost
17 Apr, 2018
Just because your old roof isn't leaking doesn't mean its not in need of replacement and if you wait until you actually notice a leak typically structural damage has already occurred. Act before the damage is already done and it is never a bad idea to have a professional take a look if you are not sure. Understanding when it is time to replace your roof and about how much this will cost you is important to know! How Old Is The Existing Roof? The first question you should ask yourself is how long have I had my roof? A properly installed asphalt roof should easily last 20-25 years and possibly longer. It also depends on how many layers of roofing you have and if your roof was properly ventilated. Take a look at your roof and see if you notice anything obviously unusual, sags in the roof that could possibly indicate rotted sheathing, shingles curling and lifting indicating they are expired and in need of replacing. Cost: Replacing a roof is one of the costliest upgrades a homeowner can make. Roofers look at several variables to determine the price of a new roof, including its size, pitch, accessibility and cost of materials. Because of this, prices for a new roof can range drastically. A new roof can cost as low as $5,000 for an asphalt shingle roof — the most commonly used roofing material in America — to $25,000 and up for higher-end roof types. The Roof’s Size: There are many factors that go into deciding the cost of a roof. A roof’s size is the largest cost factor. Roofers charge per roofing square. A 10-by-10-foot (100 square feet) area is equal to one roofing square. “For example, if we’re working on a roof that is 3,000 square feet, it’s broken down into 30 squares,”. The Roof’s Pitch or Slope: Other than the size of the roof another variable in pricing is the pitch, or slope of a roof. A roof with a pitch of about a 8-12 ratio — the first number represents the height and the second the length — or higher isn’t walkable and may require extra safety harnesses and equipment. “A roof of 8:12 or greater is a steep roof, and we charge more money for that,” The work just goes a lot slower with a steep roof. Accessibility To The Roof: Ensuring that we can easily get all of the equipment we need to do the job to the location is very important. “Can we get a truck in there [close to the house]?”. “Can we back the truck against the house? If not, we’ll have to carry [the materials] all the way out to the trucks, and that can be more expensive.” Tearing off a heavier roof can also increase labor costs. This will not only increase the cost but also the amount of time needed to complete the job. While these are not all of the factors that contribute into the cost of a roof these are the biggest ones. Before hiring a roofing company, the National Roofing Contractors Association recommends checking that its workers are licensed and insured. Ask to see a copy of the roofer’s proof of insurance. Roofing Process
17 Apr, 2018
At first glance the roofing industry can seem overwhelming. With all of the different types of shingles, warranties and other options this can get confusing. Learning the roofing process and what goes into it may help build a solid foundation to learn and understand everything else. There are many steps to the roofing process that many people are not aware of. Continue reading below to learn all about it! 1. The first step to the job is to make sure the entire property is completely protected while the roof replacement is underway. This includes the homes siding, plants, bushes, decks etc. We use a combination of tarps and plywood when necessary to assure complete and thorough home protection. 2. The next step is the removal and immediate clean up of the old roofing materials. 3. Once the roofing has been removed the roof sheathing/decking is thoroughly inspected. Any soft or wet wood needs to be replaced to provide an adequate base for your new roof. The sheathing is inspected and re-nailed if necessary to ensure the existing roof decking is adequately secured. 4. Following the roof deck inspection we prepare the roof surface for the new roofing material. Ice and water shield is installed at the bottom of the roof and in all of the valleys. We also install ice and water shield around all of the roof penetrations including chimneys, pipe flanges, roof connections, etc. Once the ice and water is installed we install a synthetic underlayment over the entire roof in place of what would traditionally be roofing felt "tar" paper. 5. The roof is now ready for the new roofing materials to be installed. We now start laying the new roofing materials working from the bottom to the top, followed by counter step flashing, pipe flanges, ridge vents, and ridge cap installation. 6. Upon completion of each roofing project we perform a post-roofing inspection. We pride ourselves in perfection and want to make sure everything was done correctly and the customer is completely satisfied. Contact us today to get started!
